How to lift your spirits when feeling down

Updated: Mar 15, 2022

For some reason, you feel down. Maybe you're not even sure if it's a sign of depression or just a mood caused by internal and external factors.

There are two options when you feel down.

First, you can continue doing the same thing, but that will make you feel worse. Wallowing in self-pity is the less ideal option because it can become a huge part of your life. It makes you feel like everything, and everyone is conspiring against you.

Second, you can take active steps to force yourself out of a bad mood. There's no quick fix, but taking some actionable steps can be the best way to start. If you want to stop feeling down, you need to change things up.

Surely there are times when it's okay just to feel down and accept it for short periods of time since everyone has these moods sometimes. But, you don't want moodiness to stop you from living a healthy and happy life.

You have to make a change and try to get up again.

This is not always easy. You may feel down if you have a lack of motivation, sadness, depression, or stress. This can cause you to want to stay where you are.

What should you do?

I have always had a curiosity about alternative ways of thinking and alternative therapies. I have tried many over the years, and I will continue to, in the hope that I can improve my health, mind, and spirit. It has helped in some cases, and I want to explore as many ways of boosting my mood as possible.

I am aware that not everything that works for me will work for everyone else. The message here is to keep trying until something works for you.

Self-healing toolkit

I recommend having a self-healing toolkit.

This just means having tools, ideas, and therapies that help you escape a negative mindset and periods of bad mental health. Learning useful skills for your self-healing toolkit is the best way to build it and expand it. Learning tips and tricks to help heal yourself is the way to go.

Healing is an active and living process. But there are certain things you can do to help yourself. I'm sharing 5 tips for lifting your spirits when feeling down.

1. Meditation

Meditation is a great tool for self-healing, and it only takes a few minutes of your time.

There are many meditation methods available. Choose the one that is most suitable for you and get started.

You can calm your soul by listening to meditation music and spending some time in silent contemplation. This will help you reconnect with the highest part of yourself.

You can learn meditation on Youtube by watching videos, or you can buy meditation e-books.

Meditation is one of the best methods for stress management. People who are overwhelmed with problems find it difficult to concentrate, leading to even more problems. Meditation techniques can help you reach a calm mind and not resort to self-destructive behaviors and thoughts.

Meditation is a process that involves the mind, and it takes time to learn.

In fact, meditation is not something you can learn overnight. It's almost impossible to achieve a calm mind in a matter of minutes. This is especially true if you are just starting out with meditation.

You should continue practicing meditation until your mind is conditioned to instantly achieve this state by simply thinking about it.

It helps to have some basic relaxation tools by your side, like

The Flō Breathing Necklace that calms your breathing and slows it down. With this necklace, you can practice breathwork and deep breathing techniques.

2. Aromatherapy and essential oils

Blending essential oils in an aromatherapy oil burner can help you to restore balance and revitalize your spirit.

The following blend is great for those who need support, nurturing, and healing.

Place a few drops of this oil in an aromatherapy oil burner.

It smells divine! This one is my favorite! I use it every now and then to sleep like a baby, and anxiety disappears.

It makes me feel lighter the next morning. You might want to reduce the number of drops if you have a smaller bedroom.

3. Breathwork

Standing with your feet shoulder-length apart, stand tall.

Take three slow, deep breaths with the diaphragm muscles.

Take a deep breath in through your nose and exhale through slightly parted nostrils. Imagine that you are inhaling your personal power and filling every cell of your body from your diaphragm to the top.

Take control of your own power, and you will be amazed at how tall, straighter, and stronger it makes you. Keep going with the same steps.

4. Stop focusing on the unnecessary

Take a few deep breathes and be completely present in the moment.

Your mind will begin to create images while you focus on your breathing.

These images are mostly random and include things like the day's events, future plans, problems, worries, fears, and so forth.

These thoughts will be difficult to ignore and are not to be ignored. This is the key idea: pay attention to these thoughts but don't actually pay any attention. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but it's all about acknowledging these thoughts but ignoring them also.

Although it may sound complicated, this is an easy way to grasp the concept. It is obvious that furniture is present in your home. You can see them with your eyes but not focus on them. Usually, focusing on the furniture will cause you to think about its color, material, and how it looks in the space. These random thoughts should be seen in a detached manner. You must see them clearly but not focus your attention.

These random thoughts will eventually stop. You will then notice that your mind is empty. This is what meditation should aim to get you. This is where you can focus on your problems until you find a solution. You have now mastered the basics and techniques of meditation to help you manage your stress.

5. Make an intention and set your intention

Your intention should be to start feeling positive and shake off the bad vibes and bad moods.

Setting an intention goes beyond simply thinking about a goal. Although it may seem small, reaffirming your goals will help you achieve them. It is essential to keep thinking about your intention to let go of the bad mood. You have to think about lifting your spirits actively.

Consider what you want, and then think about the obstacles that are keeping you from achieving it. Tune out your negative thoughts and make a positive mantra that you will repeat until you are determined to achieve what you set out to do.

Repeat: I am letting go of this bad mood, and I choose happiness.

You can try using intention candles to manifest your desires and wishes. You can create an intention to lift your spirits and boost your mood and then light the candle. This "illuminates" and validates your intentions. By meditation on this intention, you actively send out messages to the universe by sending energy and attracting energy back to you.
